Bathing Ninety percent of all dogs abhor bathing and this applies to the English bulldog, too. It does not mean though that you should completely renounce of this procedure but certain rules should be followed. Of major importance is the first bathing: its outcome will define the dog’s attitude toward all subsequent bathing sessions: the dog will may either submissive or reluctant. It is not recommended to bathe a dog younger than three months of age. The water temperature should not exceed 35°C. Bathing in a tub is not the same as bathing in a pool or on a pond so the water should cover the dog’s legs. To keep your pet from slipping put a rubber mat at the bathtub’s bottom. Plug its ears. Never use soap, use instead a special dog shampoo. The dog’s hair should be thoroughly wetted and then lathered. After the rinsing water gets completely clean the hair is once again washed. Do not make the bathing too long; try to have it over in ten - fifteen minutes then dry it with a towel. To render hair easy to comb and not get too dry it must be treated with a hair rinse. After the bathing session the dog can be taken outdoors not earlier than in three hours. After the walk you might need to wash the dog’s legs and sometimes chest and belly hair.
